Coinality – Real Jobs & Services To Get Paid In Cryptocurrencies?
Internet has not only enabled people across the world to connect but it has also enabled service-providers and job-seekers to offer their expertise in the virtual space. Job posting sites are nothing new, there are plenty of options like Craigslist, Glassdoor, Dice and Monster.com, but options are still sparse in cryptocurrency space.
Founded by Dan Roseman, Coinality provides a way to acquire bitcoins, not by mining or purchase, but by working or offering a service. It is a free service which connects employers, job seekers and service providers with opportunities payable in digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin. Since launching in September 2013, over 5,000 candidates have applied for jobs that pay in bitcoin on Coinality.
“Coinality keeps its services completely free, and aligns itself with the ‘frictionless’ and ‘free use’ nature of bitcoin,” says Roseman.
Coinality is self-funded and supported entirely by donations. All submitted jobs are reviewed by humans of reasonably sound judgement to ensure that all jobs posted on Coinality are real opportunities.
Jobs range from freelance, one-time, part-time to full-time opportunities. One of the earlier complaints about the job board was that everyone was either depicting an hourly rate in USD or perhaps a monthly or annual rate in USD rather than the desired amount denominated in BTC. In recent times however, most compensations are negotiated as a denomination in cryptocurrencies. Coinality is not involved in any negotiations, which are handled independently between the parties involved.
According to Roseman, the platform is meant to encourage acceptance of cryptocurrency payments for those who’re just getting their feet wet and seeking opportunities, “I don’t believe many users are earning income exclusively in bitcoin. Most users are seeking to increase their bitcoin holdings through labour or services, or are interested in acquiring bitcoin for the first time.”
Job offers section of the website is an aggregator of Odesk, Elance, Craigslist, and private submissions by companies. A variety of Customer Support, Technical Development, Middle Party API development, User Experience/Frontend, and Content writer positions available to job seekers.
Companies in the crypto space which place job offers on Coinality include coinbase, bitpay, ripple, secondmarket, etc. As of this writing, there are 14719 job offers and 835 submissions of resumes.
Coinality was a key figure in organizing the world’s first Bitcoin Job Fair in 2014, an event which featured over 30 bitcoin employers and over 400 job seekers and service providers.
On November 22, it was announced by Dan Roseman that Coinality is up for sale at a minimum asking price of $350,000.
